Welcome to the 2023 1D Historical Fic Fest, a fest made for history buffs, by a couple of history buffs. Historical fics are severely underrated in this fandom and deserve more recognition for the hard work and research put into them by the writers. It’s why we’re here!
Want to participate? Prompt submissions will open on December 1st. You'll be able to send up to 6 prompts, so long as they follow the rules!

The point of this fest is to encourage more historical fics into the fandom, whether that be a rewrite of a Greek classic, the hilarious conversation inside the Trojan horse, or a swashbuckling adventure across the ocean with Blackbeard… whatever you decide!
RULES
Participating in a fest dedicated to history can bring up some uncomfortable topics, and the rules provided ensure that no one gets hurt from any of the fics that come from this fest. Anyone who outwardly refuses to follow any of the rules will be permanently banned from participating again.
By signing up as a wrtier OR submitting a prompt, you are agreeing to the rules below.
1. Your prompt/s may include any pairing related to OT5, or have no pairings at all!
2. Any smut must be between characters 18+ years old or older.
THIS NEXT RULE IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT
Please read this carefully!
3. There are some topics/events that are completely backlisted from the fest. Anything involving rape/incest, underage sex, controversial age gaps, slavery/servitude, etc. is prohibited. Historical events that are also completely unacceptable include the Holocaust, 9/11, infamous shootings, and more. If you are unsure what qualifies as acceptable vs. unacceptable, please send a message or email with your prompt idea.
4. Prompts CAN be historically inaccurate, which means they may include fantasy elements. Keep in mind this is still a historical fest, though!
5. It is optional, but highly recommended that prompts/fics include a clear indication of the time period. The era can be anytime from the Prehistoric Age up to 2010 AD. The only exception to this rule is time travel from present-day (2023) to the past and back (or not!)

By signing up as a wrtier OR submitting a prompt, you are agreeing to the rules below.
1. All participants must be 18+.
2. The minimum word count is 5k
3. Co-authors are allowed!
4. An AO3 account is required.
5. This is not an anonymous fest, so feel free to post and share about your WIP! Tag @1DHFF on Twitter, @1dhistoricalficfest on Tumblr, or simply add the hashtag #1DHFF to your snippets, etc. if you’d like.
6. It’s highly encouraged to have a beta, but not required.
7. It is required to have a visual along with your fic. (Moodboard, trailer, etc.)
8. Fics cannot be a WIP (work in progress) or prequel/sequel to another fic when posted, and must be complete by the time they are submitted. Extensions will be granted upon request!
9. Tag your fic correctly! Any kind of violence, smut, etc. must be tagged before your fic is revealed in the collection.
Important Dates
Here are important dates to remember/come back to! These dates shouldn’t change for any reason, but in case they do, follow the fest on either Twitter or Tumblr for the most current updates!
Prompt Submissions: December 1st, 2022 – January 1st, 2023 @ 12:00 AM CST.
Writer Sign-Up’s: January 8th @ 9:00 AM CST – February 8th @ 12:00 AM CST.
Fics Due: July 15th @ 10:00 AM CT.
Posting will begin Monday, July 17th, 2023! Extensions will be granted before the due date, and reminders to ask for one will be posted the closer we get to July!
